As the original match finished on the second afternoon of what should have been a three-day game, a return match was begun at once. Trotter, Blacker and Tobin dropped out of the Irish team and were replaced by St. J Considine, JP Maxwell and SC Smith. These changes were not actually made until the morning of the second day of this match and the three newcomers batted nos. 9, 10, and 11. The Canadians were unchanged and won the match by 5 wickets. Ireland were 124 for 3 at the end of the first day but the last 7 wickets went down for 42 the next morning. The Canadians were 122 for 4 but then the fielding and catching became very poor and the game was lost.

Cronin and Hynes opened to Ferrie and Gillespie. Cronin opened with a 3, 2, 4 and his brilliant stroke play continued until 50 was up. Eventually he was out for 37 caught by Gillespie at short slip off WW Jones. 55-1-37. WD Hamilton came in and hit at everything. He hit Jones out of the ground and hit several fours. 80 came up and only good fielding kept the runs down although the throwing in was poor. Ogden came back on and off his first ball Hamilton was caught at deep mid-on by Henry for a lively but sound 31. 97-2-31. Dunn came in but as soon as 100 was reached Hynes was stumped off Ogden for 28. He had played second fiddle to both Cronin and Hamilton. 100-3-28. Dunn (18) and Emerson (9) were in at the close when the score was 124 for 3. Next morning the last 7 wickets fell for 42 - 5 of them to Annand. Dunn was caught at point at 126 for 20. E Fitzgerald came in and the score rose to 149 when Annand bowled Emerson for 22. Next ball JP Fitzgerald hit his wicket. Nunn had only made a single when he was caught behind the wicket also off Annand. 151-7-1. Ogden bowled Considine at 155 for 1. Gillespie then came on for Ogden and had Smith caught at slip for 0 while Annand finished the innings by bowling JP Maxwell for 2. E Fitzgerald carried his bat for 18. Annand took 5 for 35 in 22 overs.

Saunders and Vicars began for the Canadians to JP Fitzgerald and Emerson. At 16 Vickers was caught at point by Nunn off Emerson for 4. Ogden and Saunders scored rapidly but at 31 JP Fitzgerald bowled Saunders for 15. A Gillespie was next. At 50 Hynes came on for Fitzgerald and shortly after lunch was taken. The score was 78 when Nunn came on for Emerson and had Gillespie caught at the wicket for 30. WA Henry was in good form and he and Ogden soon brought the 100 up. Nunn missed Ogden off a caught and bowled chance. At 122 JP Fitzgerald, who had relieved Hynes, bowled Henry for 25 (5 fours). G.W.Jones came in and at this point the Irish fielding and catching became very poor. Ogden was missed again and Jones should have been run out. Jones hit a 4 and was then well caught by Smith at slip off Fitzgerald. 132-5-4. When the score reached 140 Dunn and Considine, neither of whom were top class bowlers, were put on. Scoring continued to be rapid and the Irish total was passed. At 192 Ogden was thrown out by Dunn for a masterly 60. He had been missed twice. The stand for the 6th wicket had put on 60. The last 5 wickets actually fell for 8 runs - Hynes taking three of them. WW Jones was caught at slip at 194; Little as bowled at 198; and Annand was stumped at the same total - all 3 off Hynes. Ferrie hit a 2 to bring the 200 up and then Nunn bowled AC Allan to finish the innings at 200. Allan had come in at 132 for 5 and his innings of 38 was a fine performance. It would appear as though the Irishmen took this game rather lightly.
