Quickest result of the day was at Phoenix Park where the home side steamrollered Railway Union. Ashil Prakash (31) was the sole resistance in a Railway total of just 108 - five wickets for Rory MacColl and three for James Maginnis. The chase was a brutal one as the modest target was knocked off in just 10 overs, Eknoor Singh hit 13 fours and 2 sixes in a 37-ball unbeaten 71, while Shane Getkate was content to play second fiddle, although he was certainly no slouch in making 39 not out from 25 balls ( 6 fours, 1 six) in a game that had end of season written all over it.

Ben Mitchell went early in the chase, but Monil Patel's 47 (4 fours, 2 sixes) saw him and Tom Johnson (24) steady the ship with a second wicket stand of 78 that all but ensured victory - Gareth Delany (23*) applying the fatal late blows in a surprisingly one-sided affair.

The Irish international showed his increasing power and class as he and JJ Garth (27) shared an opening stand of 120 in 12.5 overs to make the result a formality. Tector deserved a hundred but was adjudged lbw on 86 - the first of three wickets for four runs- but there was to be no escape for Phoenix. Jack Tector (26*) and Gavin Hoey (17) helping them over the line. Raghav Grover (2-23) the pick of a disappointing Phoenix attack. Earlier, Shane Getkate top-scored with 54 (3 fours, 3 sixes), while skipper Adam Chester made a run-a-ball 48*, before the rain intervened in the 48th over. Too many Phoenix batters made rash decisions, opting to try and clear the longest boundaries into the wind. A good win for Pembroke in their title defence.

An unbroken 8th wicket stand of 105 in 15 overs between highly rated Irish teenager Jake Devane and Alan Mathew was the highlight of North County's innings in their abandoned game up the road at Balbriggan. County had been in real trouble as four wickets from Matthew Hollard and two from Sebastian De Oliveria had them reeling at 27 for 5 and 81 for 7 before Devane counter-attacked hitting five fours and three sixes in a better than even time unbeaten 57, while Mathew proved the perfect foil in his 56 not out before play was abandoned at 186 for 7 in the 42nd over.

There was incredible drama at Park Avenue as Clontarf pulled off a great escape to deny Railway Union. Chasing 281, Clontarf looked down and out at 186 for 8 with four wickets for Srihan Karpe and two for Liam McCarthy. However, Patrick Xie benefitted from being dropped twice to post a superb unbeaten 115 from 97 balls (8 fours, 2 sixes), finding a willing ally in Yash Bala (28*). The result was tough on young Rob O'Brien, who hit 9 fours in an even time 92 for Railway that probably deserved to be a match winning innings.

Malahide 157 (30.3 overs; R Foulkes 73, M Langan 20; T Stanton 4-43, M Sorensen 2-29)
Merrion bounced back from last week's loss to inflict a 144-run defeat on Malahide. Opener Swapnil Modgill set the tone with a rapid 55-ball 73 (10 fours, 2 sixes), but the home side faltered to 104 for 4 and it needed contributions from the middle and lower order to post 301 for 9 - the highlights being 37 from skipper Max Sorensen and a last wicket stand of 62 between Andrew Doheny (36*) and Melvin Deveraj (31*). Malahide's reply never really got going with only Robbie Foulkes hard-hit 73 (8 fours, 2 sixes) causing any major consternation. Left-armer Tom Stanton (4-43) did the bulk of the damage with Sorensen picking up 2 for 29.

Bobbo Forrest made 37 down the order but four wickets for Cian Nulty, plus a brace apiece for Sean McNicholl and Brandon Kruger kept them to what looked like a gettable 221. However The Hills' batting frailty was to the fore once more as only Hassan Shahid (45) offered any tangible resistance as they were bowled out for a pitiful 109. Yash Bala took three wickets, while there were two apiece for John McNally, Cillian McDonnell, and David Delany.

Finn McGee (34), Nasir Totalkhil (33) and Jack McGee (25) all chipped in and a final score of 371 for 6 looked daunting. County though were unfazed as after Brian Dunphy's 60, Hunter Kindley and Niall McGovern (51) shared a century stand. Kindley's 116 from 74 balls (10 fours, 5 sixes) took them to 222 for 3 and on course for the chase. However, he became Jarred Barnes' third wicket and they ended on 313 - hampered by the inability of John Devane to bat after sustaining a shoulder injury while fielding,

The shock of the day saw defending champions Pembroke humbled by North County, even more so as the home side were without their talismanic captain Eddie Richardson, nursing a niggle. Macdara Cosgrave (58*) and new pro Blake MacDonald (44) were the main contributors to Pembroke's 209 - three wickets apiece for Alan Mathew and Usman Azhar. Brian Dunphy (34) anchored the first part of the chase, but at 105 for 5 it looked as if Pembroke would start their defence with a win. In World War Two, the average age of the US combat soldier was 26. In Vietnam he was 19....In-in-in Vietnam he was 19..So went the lyrics of the Paul Hardcastle number one back in 1985. I suspect it will be hummed around Balbriggan for a week or two as they warmed up for next week's Irish Senior Cup final against Clontarf with a demolition job of The Hills. The Skerries side suffered one of those days when nothing goes right that comes around every decade or so. Matt Hollard took 6 for 6, Andy Darroch 3-0 and Seb De Oliveria 1-8 as The Hills were skittled for just 19 in 14 overs - extras with 7 the top score. The chase lasted just 14 balls, but at least the Hills did manage to take two wickets on an otherwise forgettable day.

A third wicket stand of 166 between Sulieman Safi and Eddie Richardson propelled North County to an excellent pursuit of 323 to beat Rush at home. Safi made an unbeaten 149 from just 104 balls (15 fours, 7 sixes), while Richardson's even time 91 had 14 fours and one maximum. Abidullah Taniwal had made 110 from only 84 balls (13 fours, 6 sixes) as he and Finn McGee - who made 98 not out - added 172 for the 4th wicket. A day definitely to be a batsman at Inch.

Eknoor Singh scored a run-a-ball 150 (Adam Chester)
A century from David Delany propelled Clontarf past what looked an imposing Phoenix total of 284 for 8 to clinch a six wicket win with more than six overs remaining, Eknoor Singh had made a run-a-ball 150 that included 23 fours and a six, adding 189 with Tyrone Kane (65). Singh however messed about switching his batting style and that served to stir up their opponents in the chase. Ash Bain took three wickets and at 108 for four it still seemed as if Phoenix would prevail. However, skipper Delany hit 13 fours and two maximums in a 90-ball 121 not out sharing an unbroken 178 for the fifth wicket with the impressive John McNally, whose unbeaten 76 included four fours and three sixes.

Adam Boulton (37*) added a further 62 with the Ireland Test captain as the visitors wilted. The chase never really got going with Andrew Kavanagh (40), Tomas Rooney-Murphy (33) and 27 apiece from Hassan Shahid and Matthew Weldon the best of their 207 for 8 - three wickets for Andy Balbirnie rubbing salt into the wounds.

The closest and most dramatic game of the day came at The Hills where the home side edged out Leinster in a real thriller. Batting first, The Hills rallied from 105 for 5 after 31 overs to post 252 for 6 thanks to an unbeaten 125 from Oliver Horlock (12 fours, 4 sixes), sharing stands of 73 with Edson Silva - who cleared the ropes four times in a 28-ball 40 - and an unbroken 74 for the seventh with Matthew Weldon (34*). Leinster looked dead and buried as they were reduced to 171 for 8, but a 9th wicket stand of 79 between Jai Moondra (41) and Bilal Azhar (37) meant they started the last over with three runs needed and still two wickets intact. Moondra was run out by Horlock from the first, and skipper Tomas Rooney-Murphy had his counterpart well caught off the next ball much to the delight of the home support. The Hills' reward is an away day trip to Pembroke on the 15th of June.

Sydney Parade, 6 July.
Malahide 105/9 (20 overs; Mohit Sane 36, Adam Doyle 23; Jai Moondra 2-13, Mark Tonge 2-16, Bilal Azhar 2-17)

Leinster 174/8 (20 overs; Gareth Delany 85, Tristan De Beer 21, Monil Patel 21; Paul Lawson 3-30, Olly Riley 2-36)
Pembroke 115 (17.4 overs; Harry Tector 59, Jack Tector 29; Jai Moondra 3-10, Luke Cullinan 3-25, Saqib Bahadur 2-21)
Leinster captain Bilal Azhar with the Alan Murray T20 Cup (Cricket Leinster)
Gareth Delany powered Leinster to a convincing 59-run win over Pembroke and it will be the Rathmines side that will represent the region in the All-Ireland T20 Cup next month. The Irish international clubbed 8 sixes and 8 fours in an awesome display of clean striking on his way to a top-score of 85 in just 38 balls. Trsitan De Beer and Monil Patel each made 21 in a total of 174 for 8 - three wickets for Paul Lawson and two for Olly Riley. Jai Moondra then did exactly what you want your overseas professional to do - take out the opposition top order including their professional. Moondra's 3 for 10 and one for Mark Tonge had Pembroke reeling on 20 for 4. Harry and Jack Tector set about repairing the damage with a 5th wicket stand of 74 in 8 overs. That meant 80 were needed off the last seven overs - certainly achievable. However, Jack was run out for 29, quickly followed by Harry for 59 in 41 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes) as the hosts chase petered out - the last five wickets going quickly for just 11 runs, with Luke Cullinan (3-25) and Saqib Bahadur (2-21) doing the damage.
