Ireland overwhelmed by India
Ireland were totally dominated by India in the first match in the Quadrangular Tournament in South Africa losing by 10 wickets.
India's decision to field first was totally vindicated from the off as Ireland seemed unable to break the stranglehold of the Indian bowlers.
Against tight bowling Ireland were unable to keep the scoreboard ticking over and in the absence of many wayward deliveries the scoring rate rarely approached two per over.
Jenny Gray top scored with 24 and added some much needed aggression in her time at the crease and Gaby Lewis (20) was the only other batter who hit more than a single boundary.
The Irish total of 96 was never going to threaten the Indian batting line up and indeed only the openers were required, Poonam Raut finishing with 46 not out and Deepti Sharma adding 51 not out to her earlier bowling figures of 3-20.
In the other match South Africa bowled out Zimbabwe for 78 and knocked off the 79 runs required for the loss of only 2 wickets.
Ireland will be in action again on Tuesday when they take on Zimbabwe, hopeful of a first victory.
