Freddie Klokker has been a pivotal figure in the Denmark side for 20 years, following his debut as a teenager way back at the turn of the century.

He played in both the 2001 and 2005 ICC Trophy, but despite averaging over 50 in the latter, including his first century for the Danes – against USA – his team was unable to secure one of the five World Cup qualification slots on offer.

He joined the MCC Young Cricketers Scheme in 2002, and would remain there for four years, before moving to Warwickshire. During his time at Lord’s he acted as 12th man for England in a Test match there against New Zealand.

His opportunities at Edgbaston were limited to just two appearances, although he did score 40 in one of them – against Sussex in the County Championship. He moved to Derbyshire in 2007, scoring a century against Cambridge UCCE, which given the status of the match made him the first player from Denmark to make a first-class hundred.

He made a motivated century in 2008 when Derbyshire met his former county Warwickshire, and enjoyed an extended run in the side throughout the year. However he was released by the county in 2009, and went on to feature for Suffolk in Minor Counties cricket.

He’s been an integral part of the Danish batting during their World Cricket League and ICC Cricket League campaigns, making eight fifties and two centuries while scoring close to 1400 runs at an average of 37.

The hundreds came against USA and Bermuda, while he also made an unbeaten 129 against Guernsey in the European T20 World Cup qualifiers, where he finished leading runs scorer with 464 runs at 77.

His good form shows no signs of diminishing despite him now being aged 37 making half centuries in three of his last six games against Kenya, Vanuatu and Qatar.

Current Head Coach Jeremy Bray has nothing but praise for the impact of Klokker both on and off the field.

“Without doubt, Freddie is the most respected, important and popular figure in Danish cricket circles. He is a fantastic person with great morals and outstanding work ethic, being still one of, if not the fittest players in our elite set-up .

“Freddie and I have created a fantastic relationship over the five years I have been in Denmark, I consider him a great friend and a person I trust to the fullest.

“When he eventually retires people will remember him for not only being a fantastic player but an absolute gentleman of the sport. A lot of outstanding players when they retire people forget about because of the type of people they are - this will definitely not be the case for Freddie Klokker.”
