It's another win at Stormont, this time a 12-run victory to draw the series against Afghanistan. The game was ultimately decided by an unbeaten 160 from Ed Joyce. "A masterpiece from a master batsman" the accolade afforded by Heatley Tector.

Heatley played for YMCA and was also club President. His son Harry is a senior Irish international, while Jack plays for Ireland Wolves and Tim for Ireland U19s. His HBV studios have covered many Irish international games as well as regular club and interprovincial cricket.

My favourite game took place on the 19th of July 2016 in Stormont. This was the final game in a five game ODI series between Ireland and Afghanistan. Game 1, was a total wash-out, in stark contrast to the following four games, which were played in glorious sunshine and searing heat.

This series had everything. Superb cricket, two very evenly matched sides and an eagle-eyed photographer whose photo of Mohammad Nabi added further heat to an already spicy series.

Going into the final game Ireland 2 v 1 down in the series. Batting first Ireland scored 265 for 5 in their allotted overs. For me, this game featured the finest innings I have ever seen any Irish batsman accumulate.

Ed Joyce carried his bat for a simply stunning 160*, an innings that saw a master craftsman at work. He was very ably assisted by Gary Wilson who scored 58. The Afghans bowling attack was of the highest standard featuring the likes of Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Dawlat Zadran.

On the day Ed never let Rashid Khan settle, no easy task.

In reply Afghanistan scored 253 for 9 with very useful knocks from Najibullah Zadran 54, Rashid Khan 40 and the captain Asghar Afghan 32. In a game that was always in the balance, it ebbed and flowed beautifully with Kevin O'Brien, Tim Murtagh, Andy McBrine and Peter Chase all bowling very tidy spells.

Given the nature of the series and what had happened in the previous games, this ODI was always going to deliver drama and this it did, in abundance.

Stormont basked in 30 plus degrees heat and with the game being broadcast/live streamed to millions of viewers, we saw Irish cricket at it's absolute best.

Both players and spectators needed time to cool down following this game and my cameramen bathed themselves in after-sun, on a slightly uncomfortable journey back to Dublin, following a drawn series that neither side deserved to lose.

One final note is the aforementioned photographer in his role as Media Manager of Ireland at the time, stopped off at a local bakery each of the five days and supplied the grateful press and broadcasters with a variety of buns and pastries. Very much appreciated by all.
