Ireland's successful chase to beat the West Indies in their opening match of the 2015 World Cup in New Zealand is the favourite match of Ireland legend Ed Joyce.

Joyce played 151 times for Ireland between 1997 and 2018, scoring 5552 runs at a record average of 40.82, with 29 fifties and 10 hundreds - two of which were double hundreds, including the highest score for Ireland of 231 against UAE.

He is the current interim coach of the Ireland Women's team.

My favourite game was against Windies at the 2015 World Cup.

We went into the game under pressure to perform for the first time in a game against top opposition as we'd made quite a lot of noise about lack of fixtures and being unfairly treated.

So it was very satisfying to win and win convincingly under those circumstances.

George Dockrell and Andy McBrine bowled beautifully and then we batted extremely well as a unit to bring it home.

Nobby and Stirlo were particularly good and the game was extra memorable for me as I managed a few as well!

It was a close run thing between this game and the Middlesex game (which I was a spectator at) that Alan Lewis mentioned as his most memorable.

I was there for that and absolutely loved it too!

Editor's Note:

What was remarkable from my perspective at this game was the way it was celebrated. No wild whooping around, just a few handshakes and well dones. It wasn't a major shock to us, just a major statement that the Irish belonged.

It was the third time we had chased over 300 to win a World Cup game, which was a record for any country at the tournament.

I don't think I've ever been more sure of a victory once William Porterfield and Paul Stirling shared a very solid, mostly untroubled opening stand of 71.

Stirling, Joyce and O'Brien the elder all batted superbly on a very good pitch, small ground and fast outfield.

Excellent win, but despite further group wins against UAE and Zimbabwe, Ireland missed out on NRR to get out of the group.
