On the following day came another, not unexpected, defeat. Bowled out in 47.3 overs, Ireland conceded victory in only 34.1 overs. This was a fine sunny day and Warke won his 10th toss of 11 this season. Smyth was left out for C McCrum. Holland left out Bakker, Leemhuis, van Oosterom and Keukelaar for T de Leede, J Smits (who kept wicket although Scholte played) F Jansen and E de Man. The Dutch squad of 15 is powerful under its own conditions. Add to this Roland Le Febre of Glamorgan and Adrian van Troost of Somerset and it must make Holland favourites for the Kenya ICC Trophy in 1994.

At 11:15 AM Ireland batted, having won the toss. By 12.01 p.m. the score was 21-3 after 13 overs. The newcomer, Jansen, opened the bowling with Visee. In his second over Cohen was caught at slip. C McCrum joined Rea. The last ball of the sixth over from Visee (his third) saw Rea run out. McCrum played to mid-on (de Man) and called a poor run. A direct throw easily beat Rea. Then, at 21, McCrum was LBW to Jansen. Lewis and Warke (number five) tried to retrieve the situation. The opening bowlers bowled 15 overs. Then de Leede and Aponso came on. 50 came up in the 20th over. At 58 Lewis, having passed 20 for the first time in 12 innings, drove de Leede to extra-cover. Lunch came at 1 PM after 26 overs with Ireland 67-5, Warke 18, Dunlop 0. Harrison had been out, caught at slip, in the over following the dismissal of Lewis.

Worse followed. In the first over after lunch Dunlop, still not off the mark, drove Aponso to deep mid-on. P McCrum was now promoted and helped Warke put on 18. Then Warke was dropped at square leg and two balls later caught at the wicket off Lubbers, the fifth bowler tried. Warke's 29 took 80 minutes and 68 deliveries. The score was now 85-7.

In the next over McCrum suffered a similar fate to Warke off Aponso's bowling as he slashed at the ball. Hoey and Millar then had the best stand of the innings. They put on 50 in 38 minutes off 10 overs. Millar hit Lubbers for a straight six and Hoey followed suit when de Leede came back. They ran very well and had the score on 137 with five overs to go. Then, Lubbers deflected a return on to the stumps (first ball of the 46th over) and ran out the non-striker Hoey for 20. Moore took an ill-advised single off the last ball of the 47th over and then holed out to deep mid-wicket with still 15 deliveries to be bowled. Millar had played very well for his undefeated 32 off 47 balls. All five Dutch bowlers bowled inexpensively with Aponso taking 3-24 in his 10 overs.

Starting at 2:55 PM Holland had little trouble in getting the 143 needed to win. Aponso and de Man opened to P McCrum and the spin of Harrison. Harrison bowled four overs for 14 including a 6 to de Man. Moore and Hoey were next to bowl. Millar made a very casual one-handed effort to catch de Man off Moore with the score on 31- the ball would have gone to slip. Next over Hoey bowled Aponso on the back foot. 31-1-12. De Leede came in and 50 was up in 18.3 overs. Two balls later Hoey deflected a de Leede drive on to de Man's wicket to run him out. 53-2-22. Tea came after 25 overs by which time de Leede and Clarke had put on a further 24 runs, de Leede hitting Hoey for a six. He was 30 and Clarke 7 at tea when the score was 77-2.

After tea runs came very fast, 66 in 9.1 overs. Clarke hit C McCrum for six off the first ball after tea and McCrum's three overs cost 21. Harrison bowled two overs for 21 with two successive sixes to Clarke. Next ball de Leede hit P McCrum for 4 to win the match, 30 minutes after tea. De Leede's 52 came off 74 deliveries while Clarke hit 4x6 and 4x4 in 38 balls in scoring 48 not out. The stand of 90 took only 50 minutes.
