ICC President congratulates Ireland on successful hosting of ICC Trophy 2005

ICC Media Release

ICC President Ehsan Mani today congratulated Ireland on its successful hosting of the ICC Trophy 2005.

"I am delighted to proclaim the ICC Trophy 2005 a tremendous success," said Mr Mani after presenting the trophy to winners Scotland.

"I have been privileged to watch matches in both the north and the south of the island and the commitment and professionalism of the players, match officials and organisers has been a joy to behold.

"When the ICC Trophy was awarded to Ireland we were breaking new ground by agreeing to host the group stage and knock-out round in two distinct areas. I would be wrong if I said that we did not harbour initial reservations with this format. But I am pleased to say that these concerns have proven to be unfounded.

"All of Ireland should be proud of the united front that it has presented in delivering an outstanding cricket event.

"I congratulate the winners Scotland and the four other teams that have qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007 - Bermuda, Canada, Holland and Ireland.

"And I thank all 12 teams for the impressive manner in which they have acted as ambassadors for our sport over the last two weeks and showcased the rising standards of cricket outside our Full Member countries.

"I am pleased to say that Ireland has seduced us with its charm and the unique spirit of cricket has prevailed."
