Namibia appeal rejected, Canada victory stands

Jon Long, ICC

South Africa Constitutional Court Judge, Justice Albie Sachs, today rejected Namibia's appeal against the ICC Trophy Technical Committee's decision not to change the result of the match between Namibia and Canada.

In rejecting the appeal Justice Sachs stated: "The Committee did in fact, correctly, consider the merits of the case.

"In this respect it was appropriate to emphasise the special role given by the rules to the umpires to resolve matters relating to the scores at the conclusion of the match. They are on the spot. They can take corrective action if necessary. The need for finality is imperious, the more so where a competition is ongoing."

Justice Sachs made his decision on the basis of written submissions. His decision is final and binding.
