Pembroke all-rounder Barry McCarthy has been called up as a replacement for David Delany who suffered a knee injury during Ireland's win against Jersey on Friday.

Mark Rausa, Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services for Cricket Ireland, said: “David dived in the field during our game with Jersey and it was clear that he had sustained an injury to his knee.

"Although he tried to continue on with his overs, he had to stop halfway through his third and came off the field for assessment.

“He was sent for an MRI scan immediately, which was reported on by ICC recommended radiologists in Abu Dhabi and by our team of radiologists in Dublin, both confirming that he has sustained a meniscal tear in his left knee.

"He will travel home and will see an orthopaedic consultant for an opinion on his ongoing management and rehab.”

Ireland aren't in action until Friday when they will play their semi-final, having gained automatic qualification following Jersey's surprise win on Sunday against Oman.

PNG are the other team through automatically to the World Cup after topping Group A.

Meanwhile, Scotland who finished fourth, have also been granted permission for a replacement player, with Dylan Budge coming in for Oli Hairs.
