IRELAND are set to give debuts to Harry Tector and David Delany in today’s T20 international against Scotland at Malahide (1.30pm), the second game of the Tri-Series, which got under way a day late yesterday.

Following the abandonment of Ireland’s game against Netherlands on Sunday, the start of the Scots’ first game against Netherlands was delayed by 75 minutes. No overs were lost, however and Scotland hit their highest T20 total and the fifth highest by any team as they enjoyed a 58 runs victory.

A record opening partnership of 200 between George Munsey and captain Kyle Coetzer in just 15 overs put the Scots on course to beat Afghanistan’s towering 278-3 against Ireland in Dehradun seven months ago, but they scored just 52 from the last five overs.

Munsey became only the second Scotsman to hit a T20 century, batting through the innings to finish 127 not out, including five fours and 14 sixes. Only Hazratullah Zazai, with 16 against Ireland in Afghanistan’s record innings, has hit more in a T20 international.

The Dutch are missing four of the squad that will go to Oman next month for the pentangular tournament, also including Ireland, and the T20 World Cup qualifiers which follow in the UAE, and they were exposed by Scotland’s openers who were in control once Munsey took 15 off the first over.

After the six-over powerplay they were 72-0, at halfway it was 116-0 and after Munsey hit Max O’Dowd for 32 in the 13th over they were 185-0.

The partnership was broken when Coetzer, chasing a wide ball, was caught behind for 89 off 50 balls, with 11 fours and five sixes.

The Dutch were never in contention after losing two wickets in the second over but captain Peter Seelaar took them within six runs of 200, with an unbeaten 96 which included nine fours and five sixes.

Malahide: Scotland 252-3 (G Munsey 127 not out, K Coetzer 89, R Berrington 22; S Snater 3-42) Netherlands 194-7 (P Seelaar 96 not out, S Edwards 37; A Evans 2-19, A Neill 2-33). Scotland (4 pts) beat Netherlands (0 pts) by 58 runs.
