In 1985 Clarence Hiles first published the Ulster Cricketer magazine which immediately became a 'must read' for virtually every cricket enthusiast in Northern Ireland. Published twice yearly, it included coverage of Irish and Ulster cricket, profiles on cricket personalities, invited articles, and features on umpires, together with quality photography. Colin Barkley later became involved with assisting in editing the magazine.
When Hiles left Northern Ireland for Barbados in 1996 publication ceased. However, after an eight-year lapse it returned in 2004 with Peter Shields as assistant editor - however, in 2006 it was replaced by the Ulster Cricketer website.
