The World Cricket League Division 3 tournament in Argentina (January 2009) also served as a qualifier for the World Cup qualification tournament which would be held in South Africa later that year.

Going into the final round of matches it was a three-way battle between Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea for the two qualification slots.

PNG duly won their contest, but the other two games were rain affected, thus going into the reserve day. This meant that both Afghanistan and Uganda knew what they had to do in order to overtake PNG on NRR.

Afghanistan, who had been just 28 runs away from certain elimination took their second chance and beat Cayman Islands comfortably to seal the title but Uganda faced an uphill battle against hosts Argentina, not only having to win, but also by a considerable margin.

However they did just that, winning by 100 runs and the photos here show Kenneth Kamyuka bowling last man Diego Lord to seal victory and qualification.

Kamyuka set off on his lap of honour, followed by his team mates, one of whom Arthur Kyobe showcased his gymnastics ability by doing various somersaults and vaults, which showed just how much Uganda cricket was head over heels at their success and promotion.
