A familiar figure in the early days of European tournaments was Ralph Dellor, who was best known as a Presenter of Grandstand and Match of the Day.

Greece 2005

He was a multifunctional operator, and as well as being a commentator for Test Match Special programme, was a respected author, editor of Cricinfo and PA announcer for MCC,

It was his role as an ECB-accredited coach that saw him grace the cricket fields of Europe as a very successful coach of Norway.

Norway

With him at the helm Norway would win three European trophies in the space of four years, as they responded positively to his wise counsel.

He was known to the Norwegian team as ‘Babu’ which he was told (and hoped) meant ‘Wise One’ and was meant as a term of endearment or respect.

Sadly he died in 2017 at the age of 69 of prostate cancer.
