Gibraltar 2004

It’s a very happy Gibraltar team who had just taken a French wicket on their way to a 104-run win.

I was going around the three grounds each day at the tournament stopping off for an hour at each, taking some photos then off to the next.

Often it was difficult to get team photos so Gibraltar were happy to pose for this one on a lovely sunny afternoon at Royal Brussels CC, close to where the Battle of Waterloo was fought.

There was a real family feel to European cricket in those days, with great camaraderie between the teams, officials and supporters.

You got to know all the characters and personalities involved with the countries and built up a trust and rapport with them over the years. It also has a poignant relevance as on the extreme left is Gary De’Ath, who sadly passed away a few years ago.
