I got my first camera in 1985 and have been taking sports photos since then, with varying degrees of success, it has to be said.

However, there is great satisfaction even now looking back at old photos, particularly from a time when cameras were not omnipresent at sporting fixtures.

My favourite photo is from the digital age however, specifically 2011. Clontarf Under 13s qualified for the final of the all Ireland Cup that year.

They were a good side, talented cricketers throughout, indeed they have become talented sportsmen with the two Curries playing minor hurling for Dublin and Patrick Kirk the regular left back For Bohemians in the League of Ireland.

But they could be put under pressure and when that happened cracks occasionally appeared. The final, played against Bready in Maghermason was a well matched game.

Clontarf batted first and scored 154 for 3 in their 30 overs.

However Andrew Austin and Reece Kelly had Bready not just on target but well ahead of the game with 18 needed off the final 3 overs.

Five balls later the game had turned on its head as David Delany came back into the attack and clean bowled five Bready batsmen. The last ball missed the stumps by a whisker.

The end came the following over and Clontarf had won.

The photo is of David Delany wheeling away after completing his hat trick, a picture of joy, relief and probably release.

As an added bonus the picture won an ICC Award for Photo of the Year 2011 for the Europe Region.
