Bobby Gamble has being playing an extraordinary amount of cricket this season.

Besides flying over to play a couple of games for YMCA, he has been in action for Loughborough MCCU, Somerset 2nd XI and his home club of Plumtree in Nottinghamshire.

On Thursday he played his 41st game of the season, and has already clocked up almost 500 overs and 61 victims.

This week he played four games – a T20 for Somerset 2nd XI against Essex on Monday, two more against Hampshire on Wednesday, followed by a British Universities championship 50 overs game for Loughborough against Oxford.

He took 1-14 off two overs against Essex, and 0-14 off two against Hampshire. His only knock of the week was an unbeaten 1 against Hampshire, when he also took 1-11 in his first over coming on as first change, but wasn’t asked to bowl again.

Against Oxford he bowled 7-0-49-0, while fellow Ireland U19 player Robert McKinley took 0-50 off his 10. Chasing 224 to win, McKinley came in No.8 with 93 still wanted off 18 overs.

The Ballymena man made an unbeaten 50 off 40 balls, with eight 4s, as Loughborough won by three wickets.

Stuey Poynter has also had a busy summer, and has scored just short of 1,000 runs. Last week he turned out for Durham 2nds at Derby and contributed 17 and 4 as his county hung on to avoid an innings defeat.

Warwickshire 2nds also saved the game with a rearguard action against Leicestershire who made 483-6dec in the first innings at Moseley, for whom Mark Adair has been playing.

The Ulsterman took 27-2-125-2 for the county, who got off to a disastrous start at 0-2, with William Porterfield out first ball lbw to Liam Hurt. Adair was out for 5, and bowled 6-0-28-0 second time around.

The Irish captain then made 58 off 145 balls as Warwickshire staved off defeat. Adair also turned out against Notts 2nds, scoring 9 and taking 0-40 off seven overs.

Andrew Balbirnie captained the Middlesex 2nds against Nepal as the Asian side warmed up for the World T20 Qualifier – they play Ireland at Stormont on July 13.

The Pembroke man top scored with 72 (nine 4s and one 6) in 45 balls as the county racked up 164-4 which was 14 too many for Nepal.

Ben Wylie had a good week for Cambridge University after taking three wickets against Irish Universities to win the Hone-McGregor Trophy. In the Varsity T20 match at Fenner’s he took 3-20 off four overs and then scored 37 off 22 balls as the Light Blues won by four wickets.

Patrick Tice didn’t bat but took two catches and a stumping. In other games Wylie also made 31 and took 5-42 against the club side Arabs, while Tice made 4 against the Midland Club Cricket Conference.

Against University of Sydney Wylie took 1-68 and scored 9, while Tice made 25.

Finally, there was another impressive performance by Rush’s Stephen Doheny who scored 107 for Queens College 1st X1 against Bristol Grammar School. Doheny has had a productive month in Somerset as part of a Cricket Leinster programme, scoring two centuries and a fifty.
