ED JOYCE was the batting hero for Sussex as the Dubliner led the Hove side to their second win of the campaign.
The stylish left-hander stroked seven boundaries in his first innings 49, but he was upstaged by adopted Scot Matt Machan who crashed 135 as the pair added 145 against Worcestershire.
The pair were at it again in the second innings, but this time it was Joyce who was to the fore.
He hit 82 to Machan's 55 as they added 119 runs - a crucial match winning stand as Sussex won eventually by 61 runs.
Boyd Rankin claimed his best first-class figures as Warwickshire drew with Hampshire.
The Bready man took 6 for 75 in the first innings, and 1 for 40 in the second.
William Porterfield made just 3 first time around but looked better in the second innings with 29.
It was a similar story for Gary Wilson who made just 5 as Surrey piled on 563 for 7 dec against Glamorgan.
Kevin Pietersen was the star attraction but it was Steve Davies with 200 not out, and Kumar Sangakarra with 149 who grabbed he headlines.
Wilson made a rapid 47 not out as Surrey declared their second innings but the game petered out into a tame draw.
