Although the main focus of action in England focussed on the 50 over Royal London one-day competition, there were games in the county championship and that's where we start our review.
Ed Joyce - what a seasoin he's having - scored yet another century - 130 to be precise from 240 balls including 15 boundaries - but it wasn't enough to stop Yorkshire winning and going to to the summit of the table.
The Sussex skipper managed just 5 in the second innings as Yorkshire romped to a 9 wickets win.
George Dockrell was back in the Somerset ranks as they played William Porterfield's Warwickshire.
Both performed well below their best - Dockrell taking 0/29 and 0/56, although he did make an unbeaten in the first innings.
Porterfield scored just 17 and 2 although he did have the consolation of seeing the Bears win by 215 runs to put themselves in serious contention for another shot at the title.
Two other Irish players were in direct opposition in the second division as Gary Wilson and Niall O'Brien went head-to-head.
In the end it was honours even as Leicestershire managed to hang on for a draw. O'Brien hit 11 boundaries as he scored an undefeated 89 in the first innings but only got 15 in the second.
Wilson took three ctahces but made a duck in the only time he batted for Surrey,
He had a happier time being awarded his county cap in midweek and also hit 45 in the RLODC against Somerset.
Ed Joyce made 46 not out and 47 for Sussex, while Paul Stirling scored just 1 in the heavy loss to Notts but a fluent 40 in the win against Kent.
It's the T20 finals day this weekend and best of wishes to the Irish taking part - Gary Wilson and Kevin O'Brien of Surrey facing William Porterfield and Boyd Rankin (if passed fit) of Warwickshire.
We'll bring details of how they fare next time out.
