There's only one place to start this week and that's William Porterfield's maiden County Championship for Warwickshire.

The Irish skipper posted 118 against a Somerset attack that included George Dockrell as The Bears scored 294-5 in response to Somerset's total of 411.

"It was a very good pitch, as the scorecard suggests despite all the weather that was around.," Porterfield told CricketEurope. 

"I have felt pretty good in the middle so far this year so it was nice to convert that into some runs," he continued. "I have had a couple of 50's this year so far but to convert that into three figures in my first home game of the season was special.

"Hopefully now with continued work on my game I can not only score more runs in the championship but convert that across all formats starting at Lancashire tonight."

Dockrell got through 19 economic overs, conceding just 40 runs but went wicketless.

There was frustration as the Middlesex v Sussex was abandoned without a ball being bowled in anger - the first time in a Middlesex home match since 1999.

Paul Stirling top scored with 40 from 21 balls as Middlesex stumbled to a 47 run loss to Hampshire in the T20 competition.

His Middlesex side will be looking for an upturn in their T20 fortunes when they take on Gary Wilson, Kevin O'Brien and co tonight (FRI) at the Kia Oval.
