Manannans are the first winners of the T20 Manx Premier League. On Sunday they beat Glashtyns by 25 runs in an excellent final at Mullen-e-Cloie.

Batting first the Manannans were facing disaster with the score at 9 for 3. Ryan Windell and Garreth Roome had ripped through the top order, followed by Chris Langford who then put down four overs for only nine runs.

Two more wickets fell before Chris Hawke and skipper Mark Williams came to the rescue in an unbroken stand of 77. Hawke hit 59 runs from 59 balls runs with 6 fours and one six. Williams batted well for 23 as the innings closed on 127 for 5.

In reply Chris Langford and Alex Williamson saw Glashtyns off to a good start before both fell to Nick Hawke. Windell and Arun Mahalingham each hit 21, but the side were eventually dismissed for 102 in the last over.

Earlier in the day Bugganes hopes of reaching the final ended when they were bowled out by Glashtyns for 77. Alex Stokoe top scored with 14 before a ball he had played unluckily spun back on to his wicket.

Windell shone with 4 -11 and there were two wickets each for Langford and Seb Aycock. Glashtyns knocked off the runs in 14 overs, mainly thanks to Williamson (30) and Langford (24).

There was a nail-biting finish to the other league game when Manannans met Fenodyrees. Opener Carl Wagstaffe cracked a fine 50 for Fenodyrees and Rowan Bird hit a very good 29.

Chasing 134 for victory, Jack Newberry (38) and Floris Venter (36) put Manannans in a strong position. Only three runs were needed for victory from the closing over and there were six wickets left. What could go wrong?

However that over was bowled by Akkie van den Berg and, with great skill in a tense situation, he put down a fiery maiden. So Fenodyrees won by two runs, but their success was not enough to get them to the final.

This had been a splendid, competitive tournament with some great matches. Afterwards IOMCA chairman Neill Angus presented Chris Hawke with the Best Player award.
