Cronkbourne have won the Standard Bank Tinker Cup. On Saturday they beat holders Peel and St John's by nine wickets to take the trophy for the seventeenth time.Tromode skipper Steve Slack won the vital toss and put the Saints in to bat. Mark Walker and Greg Hawke started confidently, but their stand ended when Walker was bowled by Luke Lacey with the total on 25.Another wicket fell to Lacey before Jaco Jansen had Hawke caught by keeper Adam Killey for an excellent 25. Nick Hawke threatened with a well struck 21 but fell to Max Stokoe. At 76 for 7, the Saints were in trouble, but skipper Chris Hawke then took control.He was given good support from Matt Wozniak and the pair put on 28 vital runs before Wozniak fell to Matt Ansell. Hawke smashed two big sixes but was then caught off the bowling of Alex Stokoe for 24. The innings ended on 108 after 32 overs. Ansell returned 3 -24 and there were two wickets each for Lacey, Max Stokoe and Alex Stokoe.

Adam McAuley and Max Stokoe began the Cronkbourne reply with great care. Playing defensively they took no risks and scored mainly in singles and twos. Gradually the pair got on top of the Saint's bowlers and Stokoe went on the attack. He was finally lbw trapped by Nick Hawke after hitting 43.The opening stand had been 85 and only 24 runs were needed when Lacey joined McAuley. However, Peel and St John's would not give up and applied more pressure.Cronkbourne finally got home when Lacey hit a towering six to win the match in style. He ended on 15 while McAuley finished with an invaluable 26 not out. Chris Till of sponsors Standard Bank presented the cup to Cronkbourne and also the man of the match trophy to Max Stokoe.


Last week, the Island Juniors played two matches at Mullen-e-Cloie against Sefton, a strong side from Liverpool. On Wednesday the visitors scored 195 for 7 and the Manx replied with 164 for 6. Sam Riordan had a very good game, taking 4 -47 and then hitting a splendid 88 not out. Kieran Cawte claimed 2 -24, Harry Wilson made 21 and Andrew Burkett 17.  The Isle of Man avenged that defeat on Thursday with a fine win. Put in to bat, they were dismissed for 115 - Drew Buxton hit 44 and George Burrows made 33.Sefton were then bowled out for 63. Tom Moffatt bowled really well to take 6 -13 from six overs. Riordan took 2 -3 and Ben Kebbell had 1 20. This was a superb effort from the whole team and one which promises well for the future.
