It's been a day of contrasting performances for the two teams promoted from WCL5. Whilst Malaysia became the only team to win two games, Jersey have become the first team to lose two games, losing to Oman by 7 wickets at the Padang in Singapore today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Jersey lost Nat Watkins early before Peter Gough and Ben Stevens put on 61 for the second wicket. Top score for the Channel Islanders though was 55 from the 16 year old Jonty Jenner before he was caught and bowled by Zeeshan Maqsood.
It was Maqsood who finished as the pick of Oman's bowlers, taking 3-27 from his ten overs. Munis Ansari also took three wickets as Jersey were bowled out for 185 with one ball left from their quota of 50 overs.
Oman's reply was built around a 125 run partnership for the third wicket between Zeeshan Siddiqui and Arif Hussain, which ended when Ben Stevens trapped Hussain lbw. No more wickets were lost, and Siddiqui finished unbeaten on 87 as Oman completed a seven wicket win.
Oman's next match will be against Denmark on Tuesday, whilst Jersey will look to bounce back and record their first win when they play Italy.
