Castletown skipper Mark Williams staged a match winning display as his side beat Cronkbourne by eight runs in a tight game in the Standard Bank Premiership on Sunday.

Batting first the Town ended on 148 for 8 with Williams hitting 27, Richard Corke 28 and Richard Jackson 18. Max Stokoe took 3 -36 with good backing from Will Wood who returned 2 -10. Stokoe then hit 26 as the Tromode team got away to a solid start.

Carl Wagstaffe scored 23, but Williams put the Town on top by taking 5 -26. However Adam Killey fought back and Cronkbourne were in sight of victory when he was lbw to Scott Weaver for 35.

As the final over began, Cronkbourne were eight runs behind with their last two batsmen at the wicket. Jack Gerrard and Nick Wilde held out against strong Castletown pressure to earn their side a valuable three bonus points.

Valkyres notched their first Premiership win of the season with a convincing display at Marown. The Crosby batsmen made a poor start and the team struggled to 48 for 5. Then Martyn Oates (46) and Harry Rothwell (33) had a stand of 84 to turn the tables. Crosby finished on 170 with Ryan Windell and Chris Nash each taking four wickets.

Valkyres lost an early wicket, but then good stroke play took the game away from Crosby. Mark Furness cracked 63, Windell 33 and Chris Langford 30 as the Douglas team advanced towards their target. Dave Picken claimed three wickets, but it was not enough to prevent Valkyres easing home by five wickets.

Ramsey were forced to concede their game against Peel and St John’s. This gives all the points to the western club and boosts their position at the top of the RESULTS
