Bangladesh and Hong Kong have played each other on 16 previous occasions, not including the Hong Kong Sixes, dating back to 1984. Bangladesh had won all 16 of those matches. That all changed today as Hong Kong beat Bangladesh in a thrilling match in Chittagong.

Put into bat after losing the toss, the Bangladesh innings got off to a terrible start as Tanwir Afzal took the wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman in the first over, leaving the home side reeling on 3-2.

Anamul Haque and Shakib Al Hasan then began the rebuilding process, and they put on 48 for the third wicket before Haque was out for 26, scored from 17 balls. Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim then took the score to 85-3 before the game swung back in Hong Kong's favour in spectacular fashion.

Shakib was dismissed for 34, and Rahim was out an over later for 23. The wickets kept on coming, Nadeem Ahmed taking four of them and Nizakat Khan taking three. Bangladesh contrived to lose their last seven wickets for just 23 runs.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 108, and Hong Kong were scenting a win. More than that though, the Nepali fans still watching the game knew that if they did so in 13.1 overs, Nepal would sensationally qualify for the Super 10 stage.

After Irfan Ahmed was dismissed from the first ball of the Hong Kong innings in the previous two games, this time he didn't take strike for the first ball. Coming onto strike for the second ball though, he very nearly made it three consecutive golden ducks as he was nearly caught by the bowler.

He recovered though, and gave Nepal hope as he scored 34 from 28 balls. But Shakib Al Hasan was bowling superbly, and he bowled his four overs straight through, taking three wickets for just nine runs. Hong Kong had collapsed from 44-1 to 50-5.

The chances for a win quick enough to knock Bangladesh out were gone, but Hong Kong were still in with a chance of adding a win over Bangladesh to their warm-up win over Zimbabwe.

Nizakat Khan Munir Dar got Hong Kong back into the game with a 33 run partnership for the sixth wicket. Munir Dar helped take the score to 100, before he was out for 36, scored from 27 balls. Tanwir Afzal then played probably the worst three ball duck in international cricket, slogging wildly when it just wasn't needed before he got bowled whilst trying to hit the ball to the moon.

The last over arrived, with Hong Kong needing six to complete a famous win. Nadeem Ahmed took a single from the first ball, before Haseeb Amjad took over. He scored two from the second ball, repeating that from the third ball to bring the scores level.

With one run needed from the last three balls, Amjad launched the ball right over extra cover for a huge six to complete the two wicket win and send the Hong Kong camp into wild celebrations.

Hong Kong may have failed to beat their two associate rivals in this group, and they have finished in last place in the group, but this win is what they - and everyone else - will remember about them in this tournament.

Hong Kong will next be in action at the end of April, when they will take part in the ACC Premier League in Malaysia along with the hosts, Afghanistan, Nepal, Oman and the UAE.
