Afghanistan have lost their second warm-up match ahead of the World Twenty20 preliminary stage, which gets underway on Sunday.
Put into bat after Zimbabwean captain Brendan Taylor won the toss, Afghanistan started their innings with a 34 run opening partnership between Mohammad Shahzad and Najeeb Tarakai, which ended when Shahzad was dismissed for 22.
Tarakai put on 33 for the second wicket with Karim Sadiq, and eventually scored 29 before he was out. Whilst most of Afghanistan's batsmen got a start, they were unable to kick on and make a substantial score.
Shafiqullah was the top scorer for Afghanistan, making 31 from 19 balls as Afghanistan reached 168-6 from their 20 overs. Samiullah Shenwari and Gulbadin Naib put on an unbroken 35 for the seventh wicket, the highest partnership in the Afghan innings.
Zimbabwe's run chase was built around an opening partnership of 102 between Hamilton Masakadza and Sikandar Raza. Masakadza dominated the partnership, having contributed 73 when Raza was stumped by Shahzad from the bowling of Mohammad Nabi for 27.
Masakadza went on to score 93 from 52 balls before he was out, but his innings meant that Zimbabwe were able to record a comfortable seven wicket win with three balls to spare.
Afghanistan will be straight into action in the tournament on the opening day, playing in the first match against hosts Bangladesh. Whilst they will be confident after beating Bangladesh in an ODI during the recent Asia Cup, they will need to play better than they have in this match if they are to record another win.
