Senior Spinner Dockrell Happy With Moral Boosting Win But Sees Room for Improvement in All Disciplines
Ireland young `Senior Spinner' George Dockrell was delighted with the win against a determined Nepal outfit who took the match all the way to the last over.
Dockrell was also happy with the way he and his even younger Spin Partner Andrew McBrine bowled and is looking forward to a long and fruitful spin partnership with the Donemana Wizard.
Starting with a wicket maiden and the ball turning square, Dockrell is hoping for more of the same in the upcoming World Twenty20 tournament and beyond.
Barry Chambers: George well bowled, but a pretty tight contest against a very determined Nepal side?
George Dockrell: Obviously it was quite a tight game, and you know credit due to Nepal as well, the way they went about their business, you know played pretty well today. But pleased to come out on the right side of things, and I suppose a good warm up game, the fact that we won it. But we know in all aspects, batting, bowling and fielding we've got plenty to improve on.
Barry Chambers: And you started with a wicket maiden, and you got a bit of turn there?
George Dockrell: Yeah well my first ball spun, which is always a great sign, and gets in the batsman's head, and then the last ball of that over had one side on to bowl their opener I think it was. So yeah that's a great sign when it spins first up, and helps me, so it's nice. Obviously just trying to get used to these pitches over here.
Barry Chambers: And how are you finding bowling in tandem with Andrew McBrine now, a new face on the team?
George Dockrell: Yes, I've bowled with him under 19s quite a bit, and he's an extremely experienced cricketer for such a young guy. He's got a pretty wise head on his shoulders. So it is great, you know, to have that partnership with him. A combination of him and Stirlo, I think will be big for us in this tournament, and hopefully over the next while as well. So yes, I really enjoyed it today, and hopefully we'll continue that partnership.
Barry Chambers: And a bit of a nervous finish, Gary Wilson coming to the fore with two strong sixes at the end?
George Dockrell: Yes, he hit it pretty well at the end there. Obviously it was getting pretty tight. But good to finish it the way he did. I'm sure it will give him a lot of confidence, the way he struck those last few balls. And also I have to say credit to Stuart Thompson as well, who came in nicely as well and hit the ball pretty clean from the start.
Barry Chambers: And it gives you a bit of confidence now moving on to the tournament proper next week?
George Dockrell: Yeah definitely, as I said, there are plenty of things that we can still improve on, but again good signs of things to come. So hopefully we just keep doing those things the right way, and improve on the others.
