Wilson Delighted with Twenty20 World Cup Warm Up Victory over Nepal
Ireland's Gary Wilson was delighted to chase down a tricky score on a less than friendly wicket against Nepal today.
He was joined in some clean hitting by Stuart Thompson who with Wilson guided Ireland home with some lusty blows.
Wilson was also fulsome in his praise for Ireland's new spin partnership of George Dockrell and Andy McBrine. As spin could be vital to any advancement in the tournament it was good to see Ireland's spin option bowling so well in victory today.
Barry Chambers: Gary a pretty exciting finish there, we certainly made it difficult for ourselves, but all's well that ends well?
Gary Wilson: Yeah it wasn't that easy of a wicket, to be honest with you. It was keeping quite low. I thought maybe 145, 150 was par. So I think we would have knocked that off if it had of been there. Pleasing to get the win.
Barry Chambers: And crucial boundaries for you just at the right time?
Gary Wilson: Yes, I thought Stuart Thompson played very well when he came in, he took up the onus and he struck the ball nicely, and it was obviously nice to get those two sixes off the last two balls of the second last over, so yeah it was pleasing.
Barry Chambers: And obviously having lost a few of the warm up matches, it's good to get a win under the belt to build the confidence going into the tournament proper next week?
Gary Wilson: Yes, it is always, I think Twenty20 especially is a game of where if you win one you might win six in a row. So it's pleasing to get that first win. I don't think it was massively important that we win these games, but like I say it is pleasing, because you can get on a roll in Twenty20.
Barry Chambers: And obviously spin is going to play a key role here and our spinners bowled pretty well?
Gary Wilson:I'm very happy with our spin attack, you know we've got George Dockrell and Andy McBrine there, who could be the new spin twins. You know they're a good partnership, and then `Stirlo' obviously backing them up nicely.
Barry Chambers: And keeping on it, how do you find it, was it pretty difficult?
Gary Wilson: Yes, it was low, it was, my fingers took a couple of blows there. But I'm comfortable, it's just the way it's going to be over here, so that's just it.
