Ireland Opener and Off Spinner Paul Stirling is hoping his Bangladesh Premier League experience can help Ireland in their bid to qualify for the main part of the Twenty20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

He is hoping that his opening partnership with Captain William Porterfield can flourish as it did in the qualifiers and guide Ireland to the big totals needed at this level in conditions that he should know and like.

Barry Chambers: Paul another global event. Are you looking forward to this one?

Paul Stirling: Yeah, it's another one as you say. I think we're quite used to these conditions. Hopefully we can really make a mark and beat the three teams that we need to beat in the next week. So I think everyone's been looking forward to it.

Barry Chambers: And of course you've got experience, yourself, Kevin and Niall having played in the Bangladesh Premier League. What have you told the other players to sort of expect out here?

Paul Stirling: I think it's going to be a big thing that we've got to use that experience. There's more lads that have been here in the previous years as well. But I think we know that the scores are going to be in general bigger than what we've been used to. In the BPL early on, or last year, the scores were quite high, chasing 180s or 200s. So I think we've got to be prepared for that.

But at the same time we know we're going to Sylhet, which is I think a new stadium, so you never really know what you're going to get. But I think it's important for us to try and pass on that experience, because we're lacking in it a little bit, because of the lads that left. Take big Trent away and John Mooney unfortunately has left us, so we've really got to try, the Senior Players have got to step up really.

Barry Chambers: I suppose the qualifying victory, yourself and William set the tone in a lot of the games, but you haven't really fired in the last few matches. You'll be looking to rectify that come the big stage, I'm sure?

Paul Stirling: Yeah big time. I think that's just a crucial element in Twenty20, whether it's batting or bowling. That first six overs is just crucial. You know that if you come out of those six overs three down, you're not really in good shape, and in reverse to that, if you come out of it none down, you're in really good shape.

So we'll be looking to hopefully get a few high scores in that top six on a few decent decks, and really making hay, and getting that big score that we need to win matches.
