Scotland's young braves fought back courageously defending a relatively modest 178 to defeat Namibia by just five runs in a thrilling contest in Abu Dhabi to claim 13th place in the Under 19 World Cup.

Abdul Sabri bounced back from a poor opening three over spell which went for 20, to take 3 for 38, including the vital last wicket of Wessells (29).

Wessells had looked to be guiding Namibia to victory in a stubborn last wicket stand of 28, before Sabri's intervention which sparked great scenes of joy amongst the teenagers.

It had looked like a tall order at the midway stage after a below par batting display had left Scotland facing an uphill struggle.

However a disciplined bowling display meant they finished their campaign on a high note.

Nick Farrar (3-33) got the crucial wicket of senior player Gerhard Erasmus (19), ending what looked like a dangerous third wicket partnership with top scorer Julius (32), the pair having taken the Namibian total to 72 for 2.

Skipper Ross McLean, although wicketless conceded just sixteen runs in his ten over spell to increase the pressure on the Africans. Ryan Brown (2-18) and Abdul Sabri ensured Scotland had the happy knack of taking wickets at vital times - never more so than with just six needed and the last pair still at the wicket.

Earlier, in the Scotland innings Alex Baum had top scored with a rapid 36 from 33 balls which included five boundaries, and Michael English ended a consistent tournament with 34.

Other scorers of note were Zander Muir (26) and Gaving Main with what proved a invaluable unbeaten 19 at the death.

For the Namibians there were two wickets apiece for Brand, Wessels, Delport and Coetzee as Scotland were dismissed with 6.2 overs unused.

It appeared at the time that this cardinal sin of unused overs would prove fatal, but in the end it all worked out for Craig Wright and his troops.
