UAE ended the first round of the Under-19 World Cup with defeat to Sri Lanka today at Sharjah.
Batting first after winning the toss, the UAE opening pair of Shiv Mehra and Dan D'Souza put on 51 before three wickets fell for seven runs inside two overs. Shorye Chopra and Chirag Suri then shared in a 67 run partnership for the fourth wicket before Suri was out for 24.
Chopra went on to score 69, but that was the only score of any real substance for the UAE and they were bowled out for 205.
Sri Lanka's reply was led by Hashan Dumindu, who scored an unbeaten 113 to lead his team to an eight wicket win. Kusal Mendis and Hashen Ramanayake also contributed, scoring 45 and 34 respectively.
The UAE will now play in the 9th place play-off quarter finals against the third placed team from group A on Sunday. Sri Lanka's next game will be on Saturday in the quarter finals against the runners-up of group A.
