After beating both Sri Lanka and Pakistan in recent weeks, Afghanistan would have been hoping to make it a third victory over an Asian full member today in Abu Dhabi. It wasn't to be though, after a thumping Bangladesh victory in which they never really looked in trouble.
Put into bat, Afghanistan started well with a 69 run opening partnership between Usman Ghani and Mohammad Mujtaba. But that was the only partnership of any substance in the Afghan innings, as they began to lose wickets regularly.
Mohammad Mujtaba top scored for the Afghans with 47, with Hashmatullah Shaidi and Nasir Ahmadzai also going past 40. Mosaddek Hossain took 3-19 for Bangladesh as Afghanistan were bowled out for 212.
Bangladesh had absolutely no trouble in reply. Their opening pair of Shadman Islam and Joyraz Sheik put on an unbroken 216 to secure the ten wicket win, the former scoring 126.
Afghanistan will be in action again on Monday, taking on Australia. Bangladesh's next game is also on Monday, when they will play Namibia.
