In play-off matches played in the South Island, Netherlands defeated Canada by eight wickets to claim seventh position in the tournament, while Nepal defeated Uganda by 160 runs to finish ninth.

Eric Szwarczynski (75 not out) and Peter Borren (61 not out) saw Netherlands overrun the Canada total of 210 in 36.4 overs at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui after Raza-ur-Rehman struck 88 for Canada. Michael Rippon claimed four wickets from his 10 overs to see his side claim seventh position.

Netherlands captain Peter Borren said it was good to finish with a win. "After the incredible disappointment of not qualifying for the Super Six stage, I'm very happy that we finished the last two games quite professionally."

"We have the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh coming up. That's a chance for redemption. We have a lot of talent, and I hope we can go to Bangladesh and play some attractive cricket and turn a few heads."

Canada captain Jimmy Hansra admits he is disappointed with his team's performance. "We've got to regroup. We have to go back home and train harder, and come back stronger. We've learned a lot over this tournament – learned the hard way."

"But we are a pretty young team. Our average age is maybe 24 or 25. We have the right team to build on. And this experience can only help them get better. Hopefully we can play more cricket over the next couple of years and be better next time around."
