Brigade have signed Digvijay Amarnath ahead of their North West Cricket Union campaign in 2014.

The 23 year old amateur is a left-handed top order batsman and right-arm off spin bowler.

He made his first-class debut in Sri Lanka recently, but hasn't featured in the Indian first-class structure as of yet, but is confident of breaking into the professional ranks in his home country.

The player has no UK experience but the Beechgrove club will be hoping he settles quickly and adapts to the green pitches.

The surname Amarnath is steeped in Indian cricket history, with Digvijay's father and grandfather having played test cricket for India.

His grandfather Lala Amarnath was the first captain of Independent India and first Indian to score a Test century. His father, Surinder captained the Indian Schoolboys Test Team and later went on to score a century on Test debut like his father. The duo gave India the unique record of the only father and son to score a century on their respective test debuts.

They were followed by Uncle Mohinder, who played a leading role in India's first ever World Cup win in 1983. Digvijay became the third generation cricketer to step on to the cricket field to carry forward his grandfather's legacy.
