PNG's Mahuru Dai reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Mahuru Dai of Papua New Guinea (PNG) has been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his side's Super Six match against the United Arab Emirates on day 14 of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier New Zealand 2014 (CWCQ) at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Sunday.

Dai was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of Article 2.1.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match".

The incident happened in the 12th over of the PNG innings, when Dai rubbed his shoulder and delayed leaving the wicket after being given out caught.

The player admitted the offence after the end of the match and accepted the sanction proposed by Roshan Mahanama of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Mr Mahanama said of his decision: "The actions of Mr Dai were clearly a breach of the Code, which plainly reminds players of their responsibilities to respect the umpires' decisions at all times and to conduct themselves within the spirit of the game."

The charges were brought by on-field umpires Michael Gough and Chris Gaffaney, and third umpire Peter Nero.

All Level 1 breaches for such offences carry a penalty of a warning/reprimand and/or the imposition of a fine up to 50 per cent of the applicable match fee.
