Kenya have picked up their first win at the World Cup Qualifier, beating long time rivals Uganda today at Mount Maunganui.

Batting first after winning the toss, Kenya scored slowly at first. Alex Obanda and Collins Obuya shared in a 112 run partnership for the third wicket before Obanda was out for 80. They'd been scoring at a low rate though, Obanda's wicket coming in the 35th over with the score on 147.

The rate had accelerated towards the end of that partnership though, and Obuya carried on increasing that rate before he was out for 71. Steve Tikolo then helped Kenya score 50 from the last 5 overs, finishing unbeaten on 55 out of his team's total of 253-5.

Uganda were never really in the hunt during their reply. Abram Mutyagaba top scored with 61, but only two other batsmen passed 30. An eighth wicket partnership of 50 between Richard Okia and Frank Nsubuga gave their total a little more respectability.

Uganda were restricted to 206-8 from their 50 overs, losing by 47 runs. The defeat ensured that they can't qualify for the Super Six stage. Kenya need to beat the Netherlands in an ODI on Thursday if they're to reach that stage. Uganda's final group game is against Namibia on Tuesday.
