Hong Kong have secured their place in the Super Six stage of the World Cup Qualifier after a thumping win over Nepal today in Rangiora.
Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal lost their first three wickets in the first three overs with just nine runs on the board. Run scoring proceeded from there, with Nepal losing wickets regularly. Paras Khadka was the only one of the top 8 to reach double figures with 29.
A ninth wicket partnership of 57 between Basant Regmi and Sompal Kami gave the Nepali total a little more respectability, the partnership ending when Kami was dismissed for 26. Regmi went on to score 45 before he was the last man out, taking Nepal's score to 150.
Hong Kong chased their target down quickly, and without losing a wicket. Waqas Barkat scored 56, but it was Irfan Ahmed who top scored, continuing his fine run of form in this tournament with 86.
The result, combined with Scotland's win over the UAE, ensured that Hong Kong qualified for the Super Six stage of the tournament and that Nepal couldn't qualify for that stage.
Nepal will hope to end the group stage with a win over Canada on Tuesday, whilst Hong Kong will hope to beat the UAE on Thursday to ensure that they carry maximum points through to the Super Six.
