The United Arab Emirates (UAE) captain Khurram Khan has been fined and reprimanded for twice breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his side's 80 runs victory over Canada on day three of the World Cup Qualifier at Rangiora Oval, Christchurch, on Wednesday.

Both charges related to an appeal for a run-out that occurred in the 32nd over of Canada's innings.

Initially, Khurram advanced towards on-field umpire Enamul Hoque-Moni in an aggressive manner while appealing for a run-out. This resulted in a Level 2 breach under Article 2.2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "charging or advancing towards the umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing during an international match".

For this breach, Khurram was fined 50 per cent of his applicable match fee.

Khurram then repeatedly shook his head over a sustained period of time after the appeal proved unsuccessful. For this second offence, he was reprimanded after being found guilty for a Level 1 breach of Article 2.1.3, which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match".

The player admitted both offences after the end of the match and accepted the sanctions proposed by Dev Govindjee of the ICC Regional Referees Panel. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing.

Explaining his decision, Mr Govindjee said: "Mr Khan's appeal and reaction to the umpire's decision were clear breaches of the Code, as players are expected to respect the umpires and the umpires' decisions at all times. Mr Khan apologised for his actions and hopefully this will serve as a reminder to all players of their responsibilities to conduct themselves within the spirit of the game."

The charges were brought by on-field umpires Peter Nero and Enamul Hoque-Moni, and third umpire Marais Erasmus.

All Level 1 breaches for such offences carry a penalty of a warning/reprimand and/or the imposition of a fine up to 50 per cent of the applicable match fee, while all Level 2 breaches for such offences carry a penalty of a fine up to 100 per cent of the applicable match fee and/or up to two suspension points.
