Barresi's Dutch Delight as Superb Innings Knocks Scotland Out of T20 World Cup Qualifiers

Netherland's Wesley Barresi looked delighted and relieved at the same time as his brilliant knock of 75 in 47 balls guided his country easily past Scotland's 147 with 13 balls to spare.

Barresi was full of praise for his main partner Benny Cooper who scored a vital 40 from 28 balls.

The fact that Dutch Cricket has been in the doldrums for a little while now, made this victory all the sweeter.

Barry Chambers: Wesley congratulations, a fantastic innings and a complete contrast to the performance yesterday?

Wesley Barresi: Absolutely, thanks very much. It was vital that we stepped up today after what happened yesterday. We were under a lot of pressure, and it's good to see us come through, yes.

Barry Chambers: How did the team pick themselves up, I mean that was a pretty crushing defeat yesterday, only chasing 117?

Wesley Barresi: Well it was pretty simple, we just said one thing at the team meeting, it was all or nothing, basically. And we worked hard coming into the tournament, and to lose against Papua New Guinea was a tough one for us. But we fought back well, and yeah, and this is awesome.

Barry Chambers: Yes, what does it mean to Dutch Cricket, a quarter of a million Dollars for qualifying for Bangladesh.

Wesley Barresi: Absolutely, absolutely, we hadn't qualified for the last two Twenty20 World Cups, if I'm not mistaken. And we've gone through a bit of a drought, in terms of players and stuff like that. And to win this, or not to win this, to qualify for the World Cup means a hell of a lot to all of the people back home.

Barry Chambers: And you reworked the batting order a wee bit, pushed Ben Cooper up to number 3, and he got you off to a real good start, along with yourself?

Wesley Barresi: Benny needs a bit of time I reckon to get in. He's a clean striker of the ball. We haven't utilised him as well as we could this tournament. He's a bit of a floater, as we have used him during the tournament. And it paid off today, and that's real good, real good.

Barry Chambers: And Scotland would have probably banked on Majid Haq being their go to bowler, but you were very positive against him. I don't think his figures, I've never seen in hit for so many.

Wesley Barresi: Yeah you see this is the thing that we've learned. And unfortunately we've learned it in the last game of this tournament, is that you need to back yourself. You need to be positive. You need to take on the bowlers here, especially on slow low tracks. And it has paid off today, absolutely.

Barry Chambers: And just a final word on Anton Roux in his first tournament, taking you to a World Cup?

Wesley Barresi: Oh unbelievable isn't it. He has done fantastically well with us, with our preparation leading into this we spent two weeks in Pretoria where we did a lot of team building stuff. And he has made a massive change in the team. We do miss Peter Drinnen, we do miss a Head Coach, but he's stepped up and he has done fantastically well with us.

Barry Chambers: And it's not the end of your year, because in January another huge tournament in New Zealand, but you've a bit of confidence now that you can fall back on this one?

Wesley Barresi: Absolutely, a bit of a comfort zone obviously now. And we need work hard during the winter.
