Scotland have kept alive their hopes of reaching a second World Twenty20 tournament with a convincing win over Italy in Abu Dhabi today.

Italy batted first after winning the toss, and openers Gareth Berg and Andy Northcote were the only batsmen to make any sort of significant contribution with 24 and 46 respectively. Neil Carter and Safyaan Sharif both took two wickets as Italy were restricted to 125-8 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Scotland started with a 112 run partnership for the opening wicket between Richie Berrington and Calum MacLeod. Both fell in quick succession to Carl Sandri in the 15th over for 52 and 56 respectively.

That didn't affect Scotland too much though, and they went on to win by 7 wickets with 2.3 overs to spare.

Scotland will now play regional rivals the Netherlands in a winner takes all match tomorrow, whilst Italy will play in the ninth place play-off against Namibia.
