The USA have avoided a last place finish in the tournament by beating Denmark by 21 runs in the 15th place play-off today, meaning that Denmark finish the tournament without a single win.
Batting first after they lost the toss, the USA started well with Steven Taylor and Akeem Dodson putting on 79 for the first wicket before Dodson was dismissed for 41. That put the brakes on the USA innings for a few overs, as they could only score 8 runs in the following four overs, losing four wickets in the process.
Japen Patel scored 30 from 20 balls towards the end of the innings to help take the USA score to 145-7 from their 20 overs. Hamid Shah was the pick of the bowlers with 3-20.
After losing Yasir Iqbal early in their reply, Denmark put on 62 for the second wicket, with Freddie Klokker finally regaining some of the Twenty20 form he'd seemed to have lost in this tournament. He scored 40 from 33 balls before Danial Ahmed had him stumped.
Ahmed proceeded to slice through the Danish middle order, finishing with 5-18 from his four overs. Denmark never recovered and were restricted to 124-9 from their 20 overs, Carsten Pedersen remaining not out on 42.
The next tournament for both sides is yet to be confirmed. Denmark are due to take part in Division Four of the World Cricket League at some point in 2014, and will also take part in a one-day tournament with European rivals Italy, Guernsey and Jersey at some time during the year.
The next cricket for the USA could be some time away. WCL Division Three isn't likely to take place until 2015, the same applying to the next Americas Division One tournament. With USACA's organisation still in its usual chaotic state, it remains to be seen whether the annual contest against Canada will take place.
