It's not been the happiest of group stages for Canada, but they have at least managed to ensure they don't finish bottom of the group after beating Italy today in Abu Dhabi.
After rain delayed the start, Italian captain Damian Crowley won the toss and chose to bat first. And it was Crowley who played the dominant role in the Italian innings, scoring an unbeaten 61 as his team reached the low total of 104-6.
The next highest score for Italy was Alessandro Bonara's 16, whilst Jeremy Gordon was the pick of the Canadian bowlers with 3-15.
Canada took their time chasing down that total, only securing the five wicket win with four balls to spare. Rizwan Cheema top scored with 34, whilst Jimmy Hansra also chipped in with 32. Gayashan Munasinghe took 3-18 for Italy.
The closeness of the match ensured that Italy's net run rate wouldn't change, and Uganda's loss to Namibia removed one of their challengers. The USA could still theoretically lift their NRR above Italy's, but it would take a ridiculously large win for them to do so, meaning that Italy are likely to be in the play-offs.
