It didn't look likely after Scotland's start to the tournament, but Kyle Coetzer's men have managed to get there after beating Denmark by 75 runs today in Dubai.
Batting first after winning the toss, Scotland may have lost Richie Berrington in the first over, but they didn't let that setback stop them from hitting the Danish attack to all parts of the ICC Academy ground.
Matt Machan and Calum MacLeod put on 99 for the second wicket, missing out on a century partnership when MacLeod was stumped by Freddie Klokker for 41. Machan then shared in a 62 run partnership for the third wicket with Michael Leask.
Leask dominated that partnership, smashing 41 from just 20 balls. Machan ended the innings unbeaten on 90, his highest List A Twenty20 score, taking Scotland to a formidable 205-3 from their 20 overs.
Scotland needed to restrict Denmark to around 120 to enable them to pass Nepal's net run rate and have a chance at securing third place. And it looked like they were going to, as Denmark set about their innings slowly, not making any attempt to overhaul that huge Scottish total.
Carsten Pedersen scored 43 and was the fourth wicket to fall with the score on 99 in the 14th over. Scotland's hopes of restricting the Danes to a low enough total to allow them to finish third were dashed in the final over when Hamid Shah hit two sixes from the first two balls.
Shah was out to the final ball of the match, Denmark being restricted to 130-6. Scotland currently lie in fourth place in the table, and will remain there unless Kenya can beat Afghanistan later today.
