Italian Skipper Damian Crowley Delighted With Confidence Boosting Win Over UAE
Italy's captain Damian Crowley was very happy with his team's performance today against the Host country UAE.
Crowley had been struggling a bit with his own form, but found his touch today scoring 59 from 48 deliveries hitting 3 fours and 2 maximums.
Crowley is now looking forward to hopefully carrying the confidence gained today into rest of the games and proving that a bit to reach Bangladesh is not just a pipe dream.
Barry Chambers: Damian congratulations a pretty comprehensive win?
Damian Crowley: I think the boys bounced back really nicely. You know we lost on the last ball the last two games, and had a couple of days off for rest and rain and that. So you know the boys have all rested and we bounced back with a convincing win, so delighted to win.
Barry Chambers: And delighted to get a few runs yourself, you really set the tone for the innings?
Damian Crowley: I've been struggling a bit in the first few games, so it's nice to contribute and take the team over.
Barry Chambers: And having lost those two games on the last ball, how difficult was it to get the team up. You knew if you won today, there was a great chance you would be through to the playoff matches?
Damian Crowley: It's great all the results have been going our way. And we just haven't been looking after our own results. So it was nice to sort of win this game, and go through, or hopefully go through.
Barry Chambers: And obviously the tournament now maybe just at the half way stage for yourselves. A few big games coming up. Do you think you can get to Bangladesh? Is the confidence high?
Damian Crowley: I reckon after this win the confidence will be high. In T20 you never know, it's whoever plays the best in the three hours. So yeah we're obviously hopeful, and we're positive. And hopefully we can get through to Bangladesh.
Barry Chambers: The margin of victory too will send a message to other teams that Italy are a pretty strong team?
Damian Crowley: Yeah I think, you know we almost defended 110 and 120, and we knew those were subpar scores. Here we got 160 and we knew a couple of wickets ant the run rate would climb and we would be on top. So we were just very grateful to beat such a good team today.
