The Netherlands have ended the group stage of the World Twenty20 Qualifier with a win over Kenya at the ICC Academy in Dubai today.

Batting first after winning the toss, the Dutch lost Stephan Myburgh for a duck from the second ball of the match, but recovered with a 70 run partnership for the second wicket between Wesley Barresi and Michael Swart, which ended when Barresi was dismissed for 28.

Swart stayed in, eventually reaching 44 before he was fifth out in the 13th over with the score on 86. The spin pair of Steve Tikolo and Thomas Odoyo restricted the run scoring, taking 2-16 and 3-17 respectively as the Dutch reached 130-7 from their 20 overs.

Kenya would have backed themselves to chase down that target relatively easily, but all hopes of winning evaporated when their top order collapsed in remarkable fashion.

The collapse started in unfortunate fashion when Steve Tikolo was adjudged caught behind when the ball had just flicked his leg, and Mudassar Bukhari removed Nehemiah Odhiambo from the next ball. He couldn't get the hat-trick, but a double wicket maiden was a great start for the Dutch.

The collapse continued as the Kenyans struggled against the opening bowling pair of Bukhari and Swart. Bukhari took three wickets in three overs, with only two scoring shots coming from his bowling. Swart bowled his four overs straight through, taking 2-8, and Kenya were on 8-5.

It wasn't long before they found themselves on 22-7, threatening to break their own record for the lowest Twenty20 International score. A partnership of 38 for the eighth wicket saved their blushes, with Shem Ngoche scoring 38.

The Netherlands, who fielded superbly throughout their innings, a dropped catch and five run penalty for a throw that hit the helmet apart, couldn't take the last wicket, and Kenya reached 101-9 from their 20 overs, losing by 29 runs.

The Dutch have now finished their group matches, but they will be keeping a close eye on Kenya's next match, which is against Afghanistan tomorrow. A Kenyan win in that match will ensure that the Netherlands top the group and qualify for Bangladesh next year. Otherwise, the Netherlands will have to navigate the maze of the play-offs.
