Wilson on Form With the Bat Once Again as Ireland Dispatch Uganda
Ireland's Gary Wilson continued his good form in the Twenty20 World Cup Qualifiers with another fine knock today against Uganda.
Top scoring with 40 from 27 balls Wilson is looking forward to the crunch game against Hong Kong, a team which he says Ireland know little about, but will no doubt take very seriously on Sunday.
Barry Chambers: Gary, your good form continues. A pretty comprehensive win in the end, on a tricky pitch?
Gary Wilson: I actually think it was quite a good pitch, to be honest. You know it was flat, like it was just a bit slow and low. And I think maybe that's why the score wasn't a little bit higher. But it's obviously nice to continue a decent bit of form. Hopefully it can continue for the rest of the tournament.
Barry Chambers: And the Skipper again got Ireland off to a pretty good start?
Gary Wilson: Yes, he's striking them all right, isn't he, it's brilliant to watch once he gets going. Not too many people outscore Paul Stirling, it's unbelievable to have to see Stirlo play second fiddle. But such is the form that William is in. I think we're all hitting the ball pretty well, so hopefully it can continue.
Barry Chambers: And the bowling unit, we really strangled them. They never at any stage looked like getting the runs?
Gary Wilson: The guys started off really well, you know, I think we were confident that 150 would be enough. Whilst we'll look at our batting performance, we were probably 15 runs at least short from par, I thought, on that wicket. But we did well up front, and restricted them, and in truth they were never really looking at hurting us there.
Barry Chambers: It's been a real bonus finding two new spin twins, George and Paul in the middle overs, taking over maybe from Kyle McCallan and Andy White!
Gary Wilson: They're both good spinners in their own right. Obviously Paul is in the side as a batter, and Dockers is a spinner. So yes obviously they're doing a great job for us at the minute.
Barry Chambers: And just one win away now from Bangladesh, but it's a big one, Hong Kong in with a chance as well, they've been the surprise package?
Gary Wilson: Yes, I'm not going to lie, we don't know a huge amount about them. We do have them on video, so we'll sit down and look on Sunday morning or Saturday evening before the game. So yeah we'll have look closely at them and see what's going on and make our plans accordingly.
