Hong Kong's successful run in the World Twenty20 qualifier continued in Abu Dhabi today as they beat the USA convincingly.
USA captain Neil McGarrell won the toss and chose to put Hong Kong into bat. Their innings was built around a 118 run partnership for the third wicket between Jamie Atkinson and Nizakat Khan, which ended from the first ball of the final over when Khan was dismissed for 57, scored from 38 balls.
Atkinson was dismissed from the last ball of the innings for 74, scored from 52 balls. The Hong Kong total was 169-4.
The USA's reply never really got going, with only Karan Ganesh and Steven Taylor going past 20. They were bowled out for 102, losing by 67 runs. Munir Dar was the pick of the bowlers with 4-17.
Hong Kong may be assured of their place in the play-offs, but with the group winners securing their places in Bangladesh, the game against Ireland on Sunday is very much a crucial one. The USA will also play their final group game on Sunday, coming up against the UAE.
