A little over six years ago, Afghanistan were playing only in Asian regional competitions, whilst Bermuda had ODI status and were playing in the World Cup. Since then though, Afghanistan's rise has been just as stark as Bermuda's decline, so today's result will come as no surprise.
Put into bat by Afghanistan, Bermuda never really got going in their innings, aside from a brief cameo by Lionel Cann, who scored 28 from 23 balls. Samiullah Shenwari was the pick of the bowlers with 3-20 as Bermuda were bowled out for 101.
Afghanistan had no trouble chasing down such a small target, and Mohammad Shahzad smashed 60 from just 36 balls as they chased down the required runs inside 10 overs. Captain Mohammad Nabi also chipped in with 33 from 16 balls.
Both teams will be in action again tomorrow. Afghanistan will be playing the currently winless Danish side, whilst Bermuda will take on Kenya.
