Hong Kong are no longer unbeaten in the World Twenty20 Qualifier after losing to hosts the UAE in Abu Dhabi today.
Batting first after losing the toss, Hong Kong's innings had something of a top heavy look to it. Jamie Atkinson top scored with 42 as they reached 122-3 in the 17th over. Any hopes of a big total soon vanished though as they lost five more wickets at the end of their innings and they could only score 138-8.
Manjula Guruge and Nasir Aziz both bowled well for the home side, taking three wickets each.
In reply, the UAE lost two wickets early on, but never looked in trouble after that as Mohammad Azam and Khurram Khan put on 76 for the third wicket before Azam was out for 37.
Khan then put on an unbroken 44 for the fourth wicket with Swapnil Patel, taking his own score to 67 from 42 balls and giving his team a seven wicket win with 8 balls to spare.
Hong Kong still remain top of Group A on net run rate ahead of the UAE and Ireland, and they will look to get back to winning ways tomorrow when they play Namibia. The hosts now have two days off, and will be back in action against Canada on Friday.
