Ireland's Form Batsman Gary Wilson Again Stars In Yet Another Nerve Jangling Victory Against the UAE

Ireland's form Batsman Gary Wilson once again came to the Party with yet another fine innings. A well crafted 53 on a slow and low wicket and a vital stumping in a pulsating last over which won Ireland the game.

Wilson is delighted that a slightly below par Ireland are still winning, which he says is the sign of a good team. Incredibly he didn't win the MOM award, much to the amusement of his team mates and the bewilderment of the press corps. Incredibly Max Sorensen didn't register on the points sheet either!

Barry Chambers: Gary another nerve wrecking game?

Gary Wilson: Yeah, we're making a bit of a habit of it. But you know good teams win whenever they're not playing quite at their best. And I think we've done that in the last two days. We haven't quite been on top of our game. We haven't played too badly, but as I say, good teams win whenever they're not playing at their best, and it's nice to get the four points.

Barry Chambers: And you've been pretty consistent yourself, another half century today?

Gary Wilson: Yeah it's nice. I mean I actually don't feel like I'm hitting the ball particularly well myself either. But like you say, you know I seen to be running more twos than I've ever run. I'm absolutely knackered at the end. But it doesn't matter how they come really, and to get fifty whenever you're not quite on top of your game is pleasing.

Barry Chambers: It was a pretty difficult track, a bit slow?

Gary Wilson: It as yes, both Kev and I found it quite hard, you know, with the bounce, it was slow and low, and it was very difficult to hit on top of the ball. So like I say, it was pleasing. I thought 139 or 138, whatever we got was round par. And the bowlers bowled very well and restricted them to below that.

Barry Chambers: And just maybe a word about Trent Johnston, that final over. Was it ever in doubt?

Gary Wilson: Ah no it was never in doubt was it? Yeah look the `Old Man' keeps doing it every game. So it will be sad to see him go, whenever he goes, but hopefully he'll be around for another seven more games in this competition, then one for the I-Cup Final, because they're going to be big shoes to fill, whoever does it.

Barry Chambers: And we were pretty sharp in the field today our ground fielding, a few good catches.

Gary Wilson: Yeah we were, that's something we pride ourselves on. I think again we still had a couple of dropped catches, and a couple of missed run outs today, albeit they were tough ones. But I think we can take that up another 2% or 3%, and then we'll really be on top of our game yeah.

Barry Chambers: Yeah we've won three out of three, and we're probably playing about maybe 80%, 85%?

Gary Wilson: That's it yeah, like I say, you know, good teams do that, they win games whenever they come down to the wire. And I think with our experience, we've been here, done it before, won tournaments, and that is definitely standing to us, especially in tight finishes.
